Trading as Caribbean Senepols, ProCorp Pastoral came into existence as the result of a need for a more sustainable breed of cattle for the northern Australian market.

Representatives of ProCorp Pastoral travelled extensively throughout the USA and the Caribbean in search of the most superior genetics available to create the foundation of our herd. They came across the Senepol. A blend of D'Nama (a West African breed) and Red Poll (English Breed) these cattle have thrived on the island of St Croix in the Caribbean since the early 1900's. This 'home' of Senepol has produced a tough, adaptable breed of cattle with the ability to thrive under harsh conditions, maintain fertility, tropical resistance and feed efficiency whilst producing an excellent eating quality carcase.

The Senepol breed is relatively new to Australia , as the first shipment of embryos was imported in 2000. ProCorp Pastoral implanted these embryos in co-operative breeders' cows and they were grown out to weaners, at which time the entire bull component was sold to the Australian Agricultural Company. The Caribbean Senepols have a high number of qualities that make them the desired breed of cattle for ProCorp Pastoral.

ProCorp Pastoral staff have a wealth of experience in the rural industry, with background in feedlotting, seedstock production, and contract breeding to name a few. We have provided composite bulls to all mainland states of Australia providing growers with a class of cattle tolerable to heat and insects, hybrid vigour, increased fertility and improved carcase quality. These bulls are produced using Caribbean 's intellectual resources and design and are grown by co-operative breeders and a blend of resources.

ProCorp Pastoral has been one of the Australian leaders in contract breeding for a number of years generating and implanting thousands of specifically designed embryos for our valued clients. Many breeders come to us to discuss their particular breeding program. Based on our in-depth research, we can deliver your designed seedstock as soon as possible. All the resultant calves will be delivered with their individual performance records, and delivered at an agreed minimum weight. Caribbean Senepols currently have a wide selection of elite donors.

In July 2002, we were successful in purchasing a number of top quality Senepol females and negotiated the purchase of custom designed embryos from the USA . These cows have been flushed in the USA and the embryos imported for use in our Australian program. This purchase will see Caribbean with arguably the best herd of Senepols in the world.

Testimonials for Caribbean Senepols

Mike Schmidt of “Nardoo” Emerald, QLD (Runs 900 Principally Charbray Breeders)
"We had two years with less than average rainfall. Our Senepol infused bulls came out in top order. Our pregnancy rates of over 90% and the excellent mobility and temperament of the bulls make us very happy with Senepol genetics"

Rod Polkinghorn – Cattle Producer and Pioneer of Australia’s Meat Grading System, Meat Standards Australia (MSA) quote November 2002.
"MSA had an opportunity to include eleven striploins from some Senepol composite cattle in its consumer testing program. These samples were selected according to MSA protocol to include a range of quality and linkage to the database. The Senepol results were excellent with the smples averaging 4* eating quality. No samples failed, four scored in the upper end of 3* , six were 4* and one scored 5*. This is an unusually high result for striploins"

Testimonials from Australian Senepol Cattle Breeders Association Inc:

JIM LITCHFIELD
Benchmark Senepols, Thallon Qld
"We see the most profitable people in northern beef production as those producers providing high quality beef from a low cost base. Senepol cattle have proven they will survive and thrive in harsh conditions and provide outstanding quality beef. We need no further reason."

DIGBY BOLAND
Lagnacourt Pastoral Co, Moree, NSW
"Senepols ability to bring major uniformity of colour and type to the first generation progeny from a "mixed mob" of breeders is to me a most important benefit - in an area where not only heat tolerance and foraging ability of cattle is important, but also the market advantage of offering drafts of weaners of consistent type. I am so impressed with the performance and outcome of my Senepol infusion programme over the past two to three years that this year I am joining all of the 1800 mainly Santa Gertrudis and Santa x Shorthorn breeders to Senepol infused bulls. I believe the Senepol to be highly prepotent breed due to its background of largely 'survival of the fittest' and natural selection process."

PHIL CORLIS
Hazelwood Station, Richmond, Qld
"This year we are mating all of our heifers to a mob of Senepol bulls. We are extremely pleased with the way they are handling the climate and covering the country. They have also proved to be very quiet cattle."
